That’s right, folks…as H.E.R Hip-Hop, LLC management moves forward in their separate, post-college lives, the H.E.R Hip-Hop Showcase must stay behind. The company has had an amazing near-two-year run, and the showcase—the planning, the organizing, the whole nine yards–has truly been an amazing, one-of-a-kind experience that none of us (and none of you, we hope) will ever forget. It opened the door to invaluable opportunities for all of us here at H.E.R Hip-Hop that we would never have had otherwise, and did more for hip-hop in the Athens music community than any event or initiative ever before. We sincerely wish that hosting the showcase in November as planned were feasible, as we had a great line of events planned, a phenomenal selection of artists set to perform, and partnerships secured with some truly exceptional Atlanta and Athens businesses. And of course, let’s not forget the fact that the showcase was to take place at The Georgia Theater, one of Athens’ most well-known and heralded venues. However, as two of us will soon be New Yorkers, and the other, likely a world traveler, “feasible” went out the window, and in came reality—and responsibility.
Before you get TOO teary-eyed at this awful news, we want to make it clear that we will keep the blog up and running until the end of August—we’ll try to post as many reviews, new tracks, announcements about important Atlanta happenings, and whatever else we feel you might enjoy as much as possible, so, be sure to check back here frequently for new posts!
If you have some spare time, come take a trip down memory lane with us and revisit some of the magical moments from the 2010 inaugural showcase…
Miss the panel last year, or itching for a full-length second viewing? Well, you can do so HERE.
Though we have tried to make our appreciation and gratitude very clear since the showcase’s inception, we’d like to send a strong, sincere thanks to everyone who has been involved with or supported the event—this includes all of our sponsors, event partners, the New Earth Music Hall and Georgia Theater staff, The University of Georgia Music Business Program, and numerous media outlets and local Athens and Atlanta businesses. The showcase would never have been as successful of an endeavor as it was without your unyielding confidence, belief, and encouragement, and you will always have a special place in our hearts!
